The following will be posted for its importance. Hail Black Company...
**********
Petitioner Pride...All of us have heard this...and we've all gone through it....with a couple of Old Guard exceptions. Both in Khatovar and in Numenor (From what i've seen at Spring War) is that Petitioning Pride is dying. You all say you are proud, yet what i see is hesitation. I think that what many forget is that it's for your Ring. It may be the dumbest order you've ever heard, but there's a rhyme and reason to our madness. Remember that when you petitioned, it's a trial for you. You prove yourself to the Company. When a petitioner asks "why?" they, in turn, demand the Company to prove itself to that individual. I say these things not to piss people off, or to blame, I say it to encourage. You are a petitioner. You are a petitioner of the Mighty Black Company, the last of the Free Companies hailing from Khatovar. You must have honor...you must have pride for yourselves and for The Company. I DID see some amazing things at Spring War. A petitioner did 10 for one of his own, while the other would do 15 for him. THAT'S what it means to be a petitioner. Over and Beyond. We don't want you jumping through flaming hoops, or wrestle an alligator, but I wanna see petitioners who are willing to do that. Many petitioners do things because they're told to do them. That in itself needs to die. Who are the petitioners who will take charge and do things because they need done? Who will join their petitioning brother when they hit it, even if that single petitioner was only told to push. Unity is what we need. In all realms the Company is part of, whether it be Khatovar, Numenor...or even Angeron. What the Brothers need to see is unity and solidarity. We wanna see team work. We wanna see things getting done in a timely fashion.
What many don't know is that Company is forever. You have that Ring until you die...literally. You are Company in...and OUT of "game". My Numenor and Khatovarian Brothers are also my Brothers when it comes to mundane Illinois, Ohio and anything in between. We are the Black Company. We've outlasted all the rest of the Mercenary Companies. All of the Free Companies. We are THE Company.
gimme 10 for the Company! [glow=silver,2,300]HUZZAH![/glow]

yeah alligators. with metal teeth coated in poison that are red hot. And it has to be a cage match hanging by a chain 50 feet in the air with a pit of spikes beneath it. Oh and it has to be in hell to. yeah.

I heatily agree Joshua
and you guys while your antics are amusing this was not the place!
thank you Debuenzo for your post.
I do believe in what you say Joshua and that is why we petition.
I do admit that motivation sometimes is hard for me though especially when i don't know why i am doing something...
it just conflicts with the very core of my being sometimes. why? bc i know that when an individual knows why they do something they do it twice as well and twice as hard as well as it also allows them to make critical desicions from a position of authority bc they know why they are doing something.
there are however things that need asking why from a subordinates perspective...fetching, gathering, and anything else a messenger or common laborer would do (gathering wood) the answer of why is always it is needed.
but then again the reason why we don't ask why as petitioners is bc we trust the brothers.
there are times when that trust is tried though. getting brought to my knees unexpectedly by a blow from fergus while amusing sometimes is very trying on my sanity. being told to drop and then not told why also tries on ones sanity (usually we know but sometimes we really need to ask guys and inform your fellow petitioners why we dropped). being told to wrestle for the brothers amusment especially when you are as small as i am is also very difficult for me to keep my head held high afterwards.
i am saying this bc i love the company and to let you know that i will try my best in all things Black Company. I also would ask that we contemplate what i have heard on many occations from different brothers...this company seems to be antichange. why then has it changed so much? has it changed for the better or worse? some of you would say worse on some points im inclined to agree. i believe that we need to uphold the tradtions have we been? can you even answer that question? if you cant answer all of these questions you havent been asking enough questions.
this was directed towards the petitioners but to be read by the brothers i will speak more on this if you would like Donkey
ps sorry for the long ass post for you lazy peeps

It's just a game. Enough said.

im sorry but i cant agree with that Hope.
it may be just a game and while the sport aspect is in fact just a game. but the experiences within the company....i dont know anything more real. we fight together play together and learn from each others strengths and weaknesses...the company is about being together for all things. everything...through everything...the standard rules don't apply to the Black Company in regards to a foam fighting unit.
i appologize for shooting the post down like that but thats kinda the type of thing i like to discourage within the company and in any game that really is more than a game.
later on Donkey

sometimes the reasons for hitting it might just be because we are all out of shape and need to be in better shape. that is why when fergus asks us if we hate him in the middle of a smoke session i reply "go ahead, make me better" cxuz that is what they are doin. makin us better, stronger, more endurance. the fighting part, yes, it is a game. but the Campany is real. anyone who was with us in charleston for the party might remember my toast that nite at the fire, which i heartily believe. for thoswe not here, i quoted kid rock "if it looks good, you'll see it if it sounds good, you'll hear it if its marketed right, you'll buy it but, if its real.... you'll feel it. and that is how i feel about the company. i feel it. i feel it in me when i itch to fight, when im pissy at work on a wed nite cuz i missed practice, when i think of yall, and know you are family. Black Company for life and in death (which means if naything happens to me, yall better make sure im wearin my sash properly over my dress greens when im buried)

THAT'S the kind of stuff we need. As i have said, in AND out of game. The Company is here for its members, whether that member is a Brother, Petitioner, or someone from the Outer Circle. It's still the Black Company. The Black Company really is a serious thing. We *are* a family. A band of Brothers (and of course petitioners. heh). I've had petitioners do pushups right in front of me and hundreds of kids coming out of the high school, just because they had missed practice. They did it willingly. THAT'S dedication. As I've said, the Brothers have been there before. And we know what's like to petition, and we know what will make you stronger in body, mind, and soul. We have pushups for your body (among other things), but we also have character (believe it or not), and we have chaplains not because "it's a cool aspect of the game", but because mundanely, they want your spirit to grow, and they want to help you. The only aspect that *I* see as "just a game" is the fighting, and even then, i have to force myself. The Black Company (and even just our fighting in general) teaches so many things for your mundane life, and what you should strive for in everything. Loyalty, Teamwork, Dedication...
Dragon, you said it perfectly, and I'll agree. When i have my pine pajamas, there BETTER be my Ring around my neck. Company for Life. That's what that is. Joshua the Maccabee has a Ring, but so does Joshua Anderson. The Ring is a symbol. A Silver steel band. You cannot tear it apart. No matter what way you turn it, it's equal. We are the Black Company...God that just gets me goin'. WE ARE THE BLACK COMPANY!
gimme 10 more for the Company on MY lead.
