Edit: Ive seen in plenty of movies, vids and such with people using rope to carry shields on their backs across their chest but I was wondering if a ^backpack^ type set up would work. Any thoughts or comments?

Olos has a backshield that he straps on his back with the straps that hold his pauldrons. I have a belt that I can use as a back strap through a punch shield handle. I'll show you sunday at battle.

Sorry I left out an important word in there, and nightys had the idea for it anyways and cool Im already ready, going over to nightys house to finish the shields today. We went ahead and try to make a 2hander we heard of a core with markers, We swung with it it snapped exactly in half on the handle but the sword that we scrapped from it I love.

The rounds we use have a single shoulder strap for when you have to carry things. These are made from seat belt material.

Called turtle-backing. The rules allow for some truly broken shields for this. I've seen people use two straps and make it into a backpack. I've seen people take 55-gallon drums and cut them in thirds, then chop out holes for arms, neck, and butt so they truly have a turtle shell. This can be particularly useful to red users who can't react quicly to back-stabs or sudden offensives.
However, this technique has the drawback of being a huge effort to get it off your back. You won't be able to change from turtle-back to sword & board in mid-battle.
