When I go to www.closedcellfoams.com/polyethylene.html there is some white foam listed (1.7lb) and some blue foam (1.7lb) listed. My question is, if there is a difference between the two, what are they, and which should I use?-Alex aka NiyghteS

Buying foam online is dangerous. You might shell out $$$ for bullcock.

I've seen it on other forums and it was recommended, and i think it was on here too somewhere. But thanks for the answers!

the foam is the same...i'd recommend the white only because edhellen uses the blue, so you have a lower chance of being a victim of theft at a large event. Plus the white will be easier to label w/ a sharpie. (pending that they are in fact the same price)

Since there is already a foam related thread, I might as well post here. What is the big difference between camp pad and EVA foam? Is EVA just more durable, or is there also a weight difference? I've got a bit of foam smithing experience now and want to build a decent sword, and I want to do it with the right materials.

www.ehow.com/about_5072790_foam-density.htmlHere is an article on foam density. EVA is a higher density, therefore it is heavier and can take more punishment. some people use this as a core layer, since the layer closest to the core takes the most punishment through force transfer. Camp pad is a lower density foam, so it has more "give". The reason most people use Wal-Mart Ozark Trail Camp Pads is because of the cost. $5.88 a roll compared to the prices+shipping online, you just can't beat it. In general, 4# EVA is a box core layer, 2# EVA can be a blade layer (like edhellen blades commonly use). If I remember correctly, Wal-Mart Camp Pads are around 1.7#.

Awesome, I did notice a lot of people using EVA as only the core layer. Thanks.

From experience: EVA is awesome, but when it fails it fails spectacularly.

Better a spectacular failure than coring your buddy in the kneecap.
I've been noticing a huge drop-off in foam availability in IL recently. Anyone got any good sources besides Edhellen?
