Captain: The position of Captain is a voted in position, done immediately after the First of the Year. At least 90% of the Brothers have to be heard from in order to make the vote official. In the Annals, the Captain is the looked upon like the father of the Company. He looks after the Brothers and Petitioners alike. The following are some of his duties; more may be added as they come up.
-Appointing Lieutenants. The Captain decides who will be the 'spokesman' of the Company for individual sections, as well as appointing the 1st LT.
-While at an event, the Captain is in charge of the Camp, its setup and basically enforcing “Law” in the Camp as well as delegating authority out in the camp.
-The Captain enforces dues collections and deals out punishments to those who do not pay out dues.
-When off the field, the Captain is the one who deals out punishments and rewards.
-Administrative work such as assigning squads, picking up contracts, breaking areas up into different sections, working on rules/regulations.
-Assigning the Annalist.
-Dealing with politics between Company members, petitioners, guests. In other words, if an issue comes up, the Captain is the mediator.
-Works with FSGT to coordinate training.
-Sets the example.
1st Lieutenant: The 1st Lieutenant is the man-behind-the-man in the Company. When duties overwhelm the Captain, he is there to pick up the slack. He is also the ranking man when the Captain is not around. Generally, if there is a problem with the Captain, a Brother/Petitioner can bring up their grievance to the 1st LT.
-Takes over duties of Captain when not around.
-Collects dues for his area.
-Sets the example.
-Consultant for the Captain.
-All other Lieutenants fall under the 1st LT.
2nd Lieutenants: 2nd Lieutenants are the ranking official in satellite areas. In order to have a 2nd lieutenant, an area must have at least 5 individuals, which can be Brothers or Petitioners that have been petitioning for longer than a year.
-Generally fill in the same duties for their individual area as the 1st LT, but are generally in satellite areas (OH, etc).
-Sets the example.
Field SGT: The Field Sergeant is the backbone of the Company. On the field and during training, he is the law. Generally, the care of the Camp is left to the Captain, but he is there to keep an eye out incase slacking is going on. All orders are final from the FSGT and he should brook no argument. The FSGT position is a fought for position. In order to challenge the FSGT, a Brother must bring it up before the Captain. He will decide if the challenger is worthy or not and then set up the trial by combat.
-The FSGT is in charge of Company while on field, in battle and in training.
-Is the Captain's 'conscious', to motivate the Captain when he's slacking, and to boot him into gear if need be.
-In charge of training and setting it up.
-In charge of discipline on the field and in camp.
-Sets the example.
Fire Team (Squad) Leader: In the near future, groups will be broken down by groups of four. The four will camp together, work together, etc. A squad leader will be appointed, by the Captain, to be in charge of that group.
-In charge of contacting their fire team when information is posted.
-Takes over their squad if the field sergeant is dead.
-Must be mentally prepared to think on their feet on the field if they are left to their own devices.
-Upkeep discipline for their fire team.
-Sets the example.
Brothers: Brothers are the strength of the Company. Just as the strength of the wolf is the pack and the strength of the pack is the wolf, so is the same with the Brother. Each Brother is responsible for themselves, and policing up their other Brothers. They mustn't go overboard on making Petitioners drop, as dropping is a form of punishment and training.
-Sets the example.
-Ensure that what is best for the Company is put first.
-Ensure that petitioners are being treated properly and are being trained.
-Should be working twice as hard as they did when they were a petitioner.
-Keep accountability of Company gear.
-Keep physically fit.
Petitioners: Petitioners are those who are working towards becoming a Brother in the Company. They should know a few things about their position. First, as a Petitioner, they are in fact part of the Company and will be protected as such. They must also realize that they are expendable. The Brothers are not trying to prove themselves to the Petitioners; the Petitioners are trying to prove they are worthy to be a Brother. As such, there is no 'set' responsibilities for a Petitioner except to:
-Set the example
Outer Circle: Outer Circle are MEMBERS of the Black Company who are fighters whom do not wish to Petition, work close hand in hand with the Company, or have earned the right to be called such by the things they have done for the Company. In order to become Outer Circle, you must not be part of another unit and must have two Brothers vouch for you.
-As Outer Circle, you MUST wear your sash. If you do not wear your sash, you will NOT be considered Outer Circle and may be punished for such.
-As Outer Circle, you are subject to the rules of the Camp, the Company and anything that comes down from the Captain/LT/FSG.
Guests: Guests are those people that are vouched for by a Brother allowed to stay at the camp. This can be revoked if the guest is a trouble maker. Guests are expected to help out around the camp and pull their own weight.
