I Punishments:
A) As many have seen, the Company does use punishments in order to help instill discipline and to ensure that the good standing of the Company is kept. A list of punishments follows that is available for use by the Captain, LT, FSGT and Sqd Leaders.
1. Counseling - Anyone of rank can pull someone aside and speak with someone, letting them know what they are doing wrong. Generally, this should be one of the first used punishments. Further counselings will be annotated in the Annals
2. Physical Training (PT) - This is the general 'drop' command, as well as further events such as military style 'quarterdecking', runs, and other items that might be viewed as 'hazing' in order to show someone that what they did was wrong, and at what level it was wrong.
a. Physical Training vs Punishment PT - When the instigator of the drop also drops with the others, this is considered physical training. It strengthens you; it helps to build unity and teamwork. Punishment PT is when the instigator does NOT drop. This can only be done by someone who holds rank.
b. Explanation of punishment drops for Brothers/Petitioners - As stated above, those with rank can deal out PT punishment. When it is dealt as a punishment, do not expect the person who gave it out to drop. When the punishment is dealt to a Brother, not all Brothers have to drop, only that Brother. The immediate dropping after a punishment drop in order to get the 'disciplinarian' back is nor forbidden. Petitioners will drop anytime another Petitioner drops, or when the Brothers drop to do pushups (outside of discipline). When the order to drop is given, it should be done immediately; do not worry about gathering up other petitioners/brothers, they will be taken care of. Do not ask how many, etc, just drop into the push up position.
3. Extra Duty - Extra duty assignments can be issued by anyone holding a rank and can vary greatly depending on the need. Anything from guard duty to extra wood cutting, etc.
4 Gauntlet: A gauntlet can only be called by the FSGT or the Captain. A gauntlet is where the Company lines up in two close lines facing one another. The person to be punished walks through the middle, receiving either a knee to the side of the leg (above the knee, in the meat of the thigh) or whacked with a foam weapon.
5. Removal from Field - Only the FSGT and the Captain may remove somebody from the fighting field. Generally, this is done for a certain number of battles, used when someone needs to 'calm down'.
6. Bitch Status: This is one of the oldest punishments in the Company, even before the PT punishments. The bitch status is worse than petitioner status. A Bitch is forced to do ANYONE's bidding, and generally, it involves some sort of hazing. Time length of being a Bitch varies.
7. Temporary Ring Removal - The Captain can authorize the removal of a Brother's ring and give the Brother a sash for a set amount of time. In all aspects, the Brother is a Petitioner again and must prove (albeit a much shorter time) that he is worthy to wear his ring again.
8. Ejection from Camp - The ranking officer has final call if someone is ejected from the Camp. Generally, it takes a lot to have this happen and should not be used lightly.
9. Removal from Company - In order for your ring to be permanently revoked, a vote must be taken by the Company Brothers and at least 2/3rds must agree.
10. Personnal Death - Personnal Death is incredibly rare, and only happens for some of the worst crimes. In this, the Company Brothers take it upon themselves to 'execute' an individual personally, thereafter, that person's name becomes a curse in the Annals and the person cannot legitimately use their name on the field of combat and must come up with a new one.
II Awards
1. Awards can be issues out for stellar performances, initiatives and the idea has come forward to award one person every event with an Event Award. Many awards are still on the table, and could range from weaponry, praise in front of the Company, foam weaponry, medals and the like. In the Black Company, we would much rather award than punish, therefore the Awards section is much more open and not regimented.
