The term Outer Circle has been used loosely over the years to represent those who are close to the Company but either do not fight, or have no want to become a Petitioner. The term has been used inappropriately in places and in some ways, many think that Outer Circle is just for those who do not fight.
This is not the case.
Recently, a discussion was put up on the Company only boards talking about Outer Circle and their role within the Company. We've decided to remove the stigma of Outer Circle being 'nothing special' and make it worth something once again.
A post will be added very shortly that describes the duties of ranks inside of the Company. Outer Circle has their section there and anything not covered in here that IS in the duties list should not be ignored. Both sections are references for Outer Circle.
Also as of right now (the 6th of March, 2008), a list is being compiled of Outer Circle. For those who kind of just tagged along and randomly called themselves Outer Circle because they overheard the term once, you may be in for a surprise.
If for some reason, when the list of Outer Circle comes out and you do not see their list in, you must go through the procedures to become Outer Circle properly. It's not that difficult, but it is necessiary.
Outer Circle:
Outer Circle consists of both fighters and non-fighters that are now consider a part of the Company. This means that they cannot be part of another unit. If you want to be Outer Circle, you must show your loyalty to the Company.
In order to become Outer Circle, you must have two Brothers who will vouch for you. The Brothers will bring it up to the Captain, listen to WHY you deserve to be Outer Circle. You may be brought into this (both in person, via phone or internet) and asked why you want to be Outer Circle. This isn't an honorary position, it isn't something to pick up lightly. Certain things will be expected of you.
After that, if you are approved by the Captain, you will be considered Outer Circle and all the priviledges that come with.
A few things to know about being Outer Circle:
1. You are PART of the Company, and therefore not allowed to be part of another unit as stated above.
2. You will receive a belt flag that you MUST wear at all events.
3. If you plan to fight, you should plan to train with the Company. Outer Circle fighters are always invited to Company training events and are expected to learn the styles of fighting we are bringing.
4. If you are an Outer Circle fighter, you will be assigned to a squad once the system is up and running.
5. You will have access to the Company Business board section.
6. You must follow the rules and regulations just as any Petitioner/Brother would.
7. You are expected to act as though you are part of the Company. You bear our mark, be proud of it and don't give it a bad name.
8. We know that not all Outer Circle will want to fight, and we understand that. We would prefer that if you want to be Outer Circle you DO fight or at least consider it, but it is not a requirement.
9. Outer Circle should expect to receive orders from those who hold rank in the Company and accept the orders with little in the way of lip, huffiness and general pout.
Just as being Outer Circle is a priviledge, it can be taken away. If it is deemed that you should not be part of the Company, a vote will be put before the Brothers. If the vote comes out with the majority stating you should be denied being Outer Circle, it will be revoked.
Being Outer Circle isn't something to take on lightly. If you do decide to do so, learn more about the Company. Don't just be a camp follower. Find out where the Company comes from. Also remember that we are military in style. As stated above, you can expect to receive orders. It is known that you are not a Petitioner though and you will not be treated as such.
Also understand that at times, there may be a Petitioner/Brother or Brother meeting. This is not to exclude you, but there are some things in the Company that we wish to decide on our own. There will of course be Entire Company meetings to which you would be invited. This is the station you chose in the Company, and so will have to live with the fact that you are not as high up in the rank structure. Also as Outer Circle, unless a truely rare instance comes up, you can not hold a rank. Squad Leaders, the Field Sergeant, Luitenents and the Captain are ranks held by Brothers only.
As stated above, more information will be following soon. This is something to get the ball rolling.
Enjoy.
